Evermore’s Food and Lifestyle Roundup!

Scientists are always learning new and fascinating information on what exactly happens while we are catching some Zzz’s, and this week we rounded up some of the most recent and informative stories. So cuddle up with your pooch (who is probably napping) and read up on some of the best ways to get a good night’s rest.

  • Think you already run around like crazy all day and fall asleep before you hit the pillow? Check out this snoring hummingbird! The little fella is conked out!

If art imitates life, then art about dogs must always be extraordinary! This week we rounded up stories about the inspirational aspects of dogs – in paintings, music, videos, and more. Do your pets inspire you and your creative pursuits? Tweet us pictures and videos at @evermorepetfood !

  • They say music soothes the savage beast, but we think some dogs just love to sing. Take this Basset Hound named Floppy, for example. She’s a natural talent!

  • While they inspire us to create art, dogs also inspire us to be imaginative and inventive. Think of all the gadgets and gizmos that have been invented for them (and don’t even get us started on all the crazy toys for cats)! What would you invent for your dog if you could?

When it comes to food – both good and bad – we find it fascinating that so much can be packed into so little. Take a blueberry, for example. Just one of these little guys has tons of vitamins, antioxidants, sugar, and water.  This week we got a little scientific and rounded up stories about what is inside the foods we eat – it is what counts, after all!

  • Some foods are like little nutrient-rich presents, perfect for munching on at your desk, or powering up with after a workout. Knowing which foods pack the most punch will help you plan your day, and your diet a bit better. And we’ve got a great list for you right here!

Evermore’s Weekly Roundup!

Escaping the winter blues is on everyone’s mind this time of year. Even your pets are probably dreaming of warm naps in the sun and romps with their best friends at the park. This week we rounded up some stories and videos to remind you and your dog how much fun you’re going to have in a few short months.  So get ready, spring is really just around the corner!

  • Before you let your pets run around in the backyard, you might want to inspect any damage that occurred over the winter. That includes fixing any holes in fences, checking for potholes, and removing any potentially dangerous debris.
  • If you’re taking off for a little beach get-a-way and don’t want to board your beloved canine, why not try Dog-Vacay? It’s a new service that places dogs with local qualified caregivers.
  • So maybe we’re stuck inside for a little longer. At least we have the Internet to keep us entertained! Mother Nature Network put together a fantastic gallery, titled, The Month In Animals. We recommend cuddling with your furry friends and checking it out.

Evermore’s Food and Lifestyle Roundup!

We spend a lot of time thinking about our bodies – what’s going in them, and how they look and feel. But how much time do we spend thinking about our thoughts? While some people may be over-eaters, most of us are definitely over-thinkers. And, like anything without moderation, that can be a very unhealthy habit. This week we rounded up stories about the importance of slowing down your racing mind, taking mini mental vacations, and the health benefits of getting a little emotional.

  • Worrying takes up a ridiculous amount of time in many people’s lives. From fretting about bills that need to be paid, to relationships that are in a rut, we can find ourselves adding a dose of dread to even the simplest decision. We don’t want to make you worry that you are worrying too much, so here is a list of ten things you can stop worrying about right now.

Pets to the rescue!  Whether they’ve managed to wake up an owner having a seizure, took care of a lonely friend, or just brought joy to our lives with their unconditional love, every pet is a little hero.  This week we’ve rounded up stories about some of the most courageous and caring four-legged friends – and yes, one classic heroic dog video.

  • Every year the American Humane Association honors heroic canines with their Hero Dog Awards. Do you know a pup that has what it takes? Nominate him/her for a 2012 award!

Okay, we couldn’t put this roundup together without including the classic video of one dog, risking his life, to save another. Hope you have your tissues handy!

Evermore’s Food and Lifestyle Roundup!

Our diets seem to always be in flux. Whether it is the holiday season showing up with cookies and too much stuffing, or the three years we spent being vegan in college, the way we eat and think about food changes throughout our lives. Change isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and as they say – variety is the spice of life! This week we rounded up some stories about change – in our country, our habits, and our refrigerators.

  • First Lady Michelle Obama has been a proponent of healthy living since she entered the White House in 2008. From planting a national vegetable garden, to raising awareness about childhood obesity, she has made thinking about the way we eat a top issue for many Americans. But is all of this thinking turning into action?
  • If you are a New Yorker considering a vegetarian lifestyle, we suggest you check out the New York Vegetarian Food Festival on March 3rd & 4th. Local vendors will be supplying samples, information, and tips and tricks on how to go veg in our meat-heavy world.
  • Okay, maybe you aren’t ready (or interested) in giving up the beef, but you want to be healthier. Small changes, like skipping the fast food run, might be a good place to start. Here is some information that might give you a little push – 8 Creepy Mystery Ingredients in Fast Food.

Evermore’s Weekly Roundup!

What a big week for dogs! From the Westminster Dog Show to the Golden Collar awards, it was a total celebration of our favorite species (no offense, cats). On the off chance you missed all the hoopla, we’ve rounded up some of the top dog stories of the week.

  • New York Fashion Week may not seem like a dog-friendly event (poo and couture don’t really go together), but one hotel is cashing in on all the dog lovers in town. The New York hotel hosted a runway show where, you guessed it, human models were traded in for canines.

Evermore’s Weekly Food and Lifestyle Roundup - Valentine’s Day Edition!

It’s pretty common for our brains to have a complicated relationship with our stomachs. What we crave and desire can have a lot more to do with the nutrients we are lacking than our actual need for gummy bears. And what we decide to put into our stomachs can affect our mood, memory, and even overall happiness. In this week’s Valentine’s edition of our Food and Lifestyle roundup, we collected some stories that shed a little light on the connection between food and the brain – two very important parts of any person that simply can’t live without each other.

  • In both romantic and food-related relationships, there is a fine line between focus and obsession. While being “healthy” is important, it is possible to go overboard. Orthorexia, or an obsession with “healthy” food, is not an official diagnosis for this problem, but it is a rapidly occurring illness for many people.
